STURMANSKIE 15J

I bought this vintage mint condition Sturmanskie 15J watch. This watch was produced by 1st Moscow Watch Factory between 1949 and 1954 in limited numbers. It is believed that the watch was not available to the public but only for graduate pilots of the Orenburg Flight School. The most famous graduate of the school was Yuri Gagarin who studied at the school from 1955 to 1957.

Yuri was wearing the 17J version of this watch during his space travel on 12 April 1961 aboard of the Vostok 1.

This watch is the 15J version from Q3-1954. The Nato G10 MK2 16mm chestnut leather watch strap looks like it has been designed for it and was bought from David Boettcher's Vintagewatchstraps.com.
